A New Year
Welcome to 2021 ✨ I know many people are glad to see 2020 in the rearview mirror! Personally I was very lucky in 2020 because I stayed in good health and my family and friends who did contract COVID-19 were able to recover. But the virus didn't just disappear because the calendar rolled over, which means 2021 will unfortunately bring restrictions, sickness, and heartbreak to many more people. That got me thinking about my 2021 goals.
I'm one of those people who enjoys making a few New Year's resolutions. I read an article once that said we should not call them #resolutions but rather list them as goals. I say whatever you call them, I think it counts more if you can keep them! 😂 I met 80% of my 2020 resolutions, which in a win in my book! But all the resolutions were very much focused on me. For example, I met my goal of reading more books (double the number I read in 2019 👍) and I started an exercise program (Les Mills On Demand). But this year got me thinking of a resolution that lets me focus more on helping others. So I've added this to my 2021 resolution list:
Three simple words, pay it forward. At least once a month I plan to do something to bring a little unexpected joy to someone else's life. I'm remembering things that strangers have done for me that made me smile; one time I got my drive thru Starbucks order paid for by the car in front of me. During a heavy rainstorm a woman shared her umbrella with me as we walked from the parking lot into the grocery store. Recently I was trying to turn left onto a busy road when another driver kindly let me out. I know you may be thinking that happens all the time, but not on this particular road! It was so unbelievable to me and it put a big smile on my face for the rest of the day. So you never know the kindness you spread, even something small, could have a big impact. Happy New Year! 🎉
P.S. Thanks for reading my first blog post! Better communication is one of my resolutions this year ;-)
